We are a team of undergraduate students from Maturi Venkata Subba Rao Engineering College(MVSREC), who have come together to put their engineering skills to use and implement ideas to design and fabricate a Formula style race car. We have participated in SUPRA SAE-INDIA 2015 and were nominated for the 'BEST INNOVATION AWARD' for building India's first All-wheel drive car'RONIN'. And now, we are charged up and are ready to fire again with the new version, 'ZERO'

SAE India is an affiliate society of SAE International, registered as an Indian non profit engineering and scientific society dedicated to the advancement of mobility community in India. As an individual member driven society of mobility practitioners, SAEINDIA comprises members who are individuals from the mobility community, which includes engineers, executives from industry, government officials, academics and students.
SUPRA SAE-INDIA is an event that challenges young minds to compete as teams in designing a Formula category vehicle, there is no other event like this in the country. To develop a vehicle consisting of various sub systems, meeting engineering specifications, timelines and above all meeting safety standards is a challenge not for the faint hearted. And then making the rubber hit the road at a premium race track under gazing eyes of experienced technical experts and other enthusiasts is a thrill not just for the participants, but for the mobility community at large.

RONIN ZERO

The car draws its inspiration from a Japanese revolutionary fighter aircraft Mitsubishi A6M "Zero", known for its very light and robust build. The use of high strength Aluminium for the floor, the uprights, the steering wheel, etc has made this car as light as possible without compromising its strength in any way. The team has worked hard to make this possible through a range of modern innovations that will ensure maximum performance and push us towards victory. Read on to know more . . .
The car's frame is a steel spaceframe designed to meet all the competetion rules and the driver's ergonomic requirements with exceptional torsional rigidity. Zero stands on R14 wheels suspended through Double A-arms. The suspension geometry has been optimised to improve the car's motion control, stablity and ride comfort. The floor is made up of Aluminium honeycomb which makes it feather light, yet very strong. The uprights have been analysed and optimised for maximum life and strength and the use of Aluminium 7075-T6 makes them indestructible..

Zero comes with a low density, Dow IMPAXX 700 energy absorbing foam and a electronic gear shift mechanism actuated by solenoids controlled by paddles .Safety has always been the top priority in all phases and departments of design and hence every possible path that could compromise safety has been dealt with zero tolerance. A 6 point harness with arm restraints and a extensive side impact structure make the car a death-proof safety cell and the robust machine it is expected to be.
At the heart of ZERO sits the mighty Royal Enfield 500 engine with a single cylinder, 4 stroke, twinspark engine with Keihin Electronic Fuel Injection which delivers 27.2 Bhp at 5250 rpm and 41.3 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. All this power is kept under control by a five speed constant mesh transmission with wet, multi plate clutch.

The power train of RONIN ZERO is designed such that there will be a balanced delivery in power and torque. In compliance with the SAE rules, air intake with 20mm restrictor had to intervene the optimum airflow, thus reducing the power output from the stock parameters by about 3 Bhp. So the team decided to design a SCREW TYPE SUPERCHARGER in order to regain the deficit power.

With the mighty Royal Enfield 500 as the engine, a supercharged power of 31 hp and a top speed of 100 kmph, ZERO has what it takes to endure throughout and stand out in the competetion with a heart-pounding performance.
